Translate a receipt photo or PDF into English
Understand foreign-language item descriptions, tax labels and payment notes. Start with a JPG, PNG or PDF, choose English or another target language, then compare the translation with your original.
Have a photo? Choose your receipt photo. It is converted to PDF in your browser; you decide when to upload it for translation.
Upload your receipt PDF
Choose a JPG or PNG, up to 20 MB. We prepare a one-page PDF in your browser. It is uploaded only when you press the button below. This does not sharpen faded text or translate the photo.
Keep the whole receipt visible and the text sharp. Review the page selection and credit amount before starting translation.
From a paper receipt to a readable translation
- Flatten the receipt, avoid glare and include every line. Use the photo option above for JPG or PNG, or save your scan as a PDF. Converting a photo does not make blurred text readable.
- Upload the PDF above. Confirm the detected source language, select the target language and review the pages to translate.
- Open the result beside the original. Check each item and all numerical fields before downloading or sharing the translation.
For an image-only PDF, inspect our scanned PDF example and its limitations. This is a document translation workflow, not a structured receipt-to-spreadsheet extractor.
Check the figures, not just the translated words
Translation does not convert currencies or verify a payment. Preserve the original receipt as your reference. Check the merchant name, receipt number, currency, date, quantities, discounts, tax and final amount.
| Field | Original | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Currency | EUR | Do not change EUR into USD. |
| Subtotal | 18,00 | A decimal comma must still mean eighteen. |
| Tax | 1,80 | Check every digit and the decimal separator. |
| Total | 19,80 | 18.00 + 1.80 = 19.80; check for omitted lines. |
| Date | 04/05/2026 | Confirm the source date convention before interpreting it. |
Common questions
Can I upload a receipt photograph directly?
Yes. Choose a JPG or PNG using the photo option above. Scanfile prepares a PDF in your browser; press Upload photo PDF for translation to send it through the document workflow. HEIC and other photo formats must be exported as JPG, PNG or PDF first.
Will every amount and merchant name be correct?
Do not assume that. OCR and translation can change digits, names or formatting, especially on faded thermal paper. Compare the result line by line and correct errors before relying on it.
Can I use this for an expense claim?
Keep the original and check your recipient’s requirements. Scanfile does not certify translations or guarantee acceptance for reimbursement, accounting or official submissions.
Does this calculate expenses or exchange rates?
No. It translates document content. It does not reconcile transactions, validate totals or convert the receipt’s currency.
